Demi Lovato hold a couple of books in her arms as she leaves a friends home on Sunday evening (May 27) in Beverly Hills, Calif.

The 19-year-old new X Factor judge celebrated the long weekend with a Memorial Day Weekend party with the group.

Speaking of X Factor, former judge Paula Abdul dished about the Demi and Britney Spears as the new judges.

“Her songs are great. She’s riding a wave that’s really exciting. It’s a younger demo,” Paula told the Wendy Williams Show.

Demi tweeted after her first round of auditions in Austin, Texas, “Such an amazing day…can’t wait to do it again!!! #XfactorUSA.”

Since the big announcement that Demi Lovato will join The X Factor as a judge, lots of people have been questioning whether she has enough experience to measure up to music biz vets like LA Reid and Simon Cowell.

“Anybody who would sit in a room… and listen to her sing is gonna be blown away,” says singer/songwriter Jon McLaughlin, who co-wrote a couple songs with Demi for her second album. (We talked to Jon when he played the Muve Music Lounge here at Mix 96-5.)

“She’s been hugely successful in the Disney route and the pop scene… People tend to think those kinds of artists were built by the team around them,” he says. “She wouldn’t be where she is now without the talent that she has.”

Britney Spears received the loudest, longest applause at the start of her
first taping as a judge on Fox's The X Factor on Thursday, but it was fellow
newcomer Demi Lovato who appeared ready to steal the spotlight during
the second season of the popular talent search show.

While Cowell talked to Spears off microphone between many of the
performances and asked her to lead off critiques several times in an
apparent attempt to draw her into exchanges, the
19-year-old Lovato needed no such prodding. Playfully flirting with male
contestants ("she is single now" became a common refrain from Cowell)
and giving insightful comments at every chance, the teen star drew laughs
and cheers from the crowd, along with several stunned, open-mouth
stares from Cowell as the two verbally sparred.

It was those times when the interaction between the contestants and
the judges produced the types of moments that show executives hope will
increase ratings following the ouster of first-year judges Cheryl Cole,
Nicole Scherzinger and former Idol judge Paula Abdul. Take the moment
when Cowell, 52, admitted to taking a liking to a charismatic 22 year-old
contestant, who returned his affection.

"It's too bad we didn't meet 10 years from now," Cowell said with a wink
before Lovato drily countered, "More like 30 years."

Startled and momentarily silenced, Cowell responded, "Demi, you're going
into the naughty chair." It was the first of at least three such utterances
on the day that Cowell lobbed at Lovato, suggesting viewers and audiences
can expect many more charged jabs between the two this season.

E! Online: Britney Spears & Demi Lovato Make X Factor Judging Debuts

It may be 90 degrees in Austin today, but things just got much hotter when Britney Spears and Demi Lovato arrived to their very first round of X Factor auditions!
But they didn't arrive together. All four reality TV judges—don't forget Simon Cowell and L.A. Reid!—rolled up to the venue solo.
Over 100 fans lined up outside the Frank Erwin Center behind barricades to get a glimpse of the four walking into the auditorium.
L.A. Reid—in his signature suit and tie—was the first to arrive. He posed for photos and spoke briefly to a house crew, saying, "I love Austin."
Spears showed up with fiancé Jason Trawick looking beautiful and bright in a neon pink Brian Lichtenberg mini dress and YSL pumps. The 30-year-old pop star signed autographs and greeted media members with a simple, "Hello!"
Lovato, 19, arrived next in a yellow Topshop dress and cropped black jacket. She looked at press and smiled, "You're much nicer than they are in L.A."
Both Spears and Lovato have taken to Twitter to share their X Factor excitement. "So excited to be going to Austin this week for @TheXFactorUSA auditions!" Spears tweeted. "Will I see any of y'all there on Thurs or Fri?"
"I'm so excited for the auditions today!!!!" Lovato wrote. "It's my first day... woo hoo!! Who's coming??!!! #XFACTORUSA."
Last to arrive was X Factor head honcho himself, Mr. Cowell, dressed in his usual T-shirt and jeans. When photographers tried to get him to take his sunglasses off for pics, he said, "It's too bright."
About 200 aspiring singers will face the judges during four three-hour show tapings over the next two days (7,000 wannabe contestants were auditioned and screened here a couple of weeks ago).
